Kerry soloing with the NATO Jazz Orchestra

If you haven't guessed by now, I play the trumpet for a living. I have been playing professionally since I was 17 years old and have spent the last 21 years serving my country by performing as a member of the United States Air Force Bands and Music program. Along the way, I've continued performing in the public as a member of numerous ensembles performing many different styles of music. When I lead a group it's usually a jazz ensemble of one sort or another. In this picture, I'm playing a flüglehorn solo on the Bill Holman arrangement of "Stompin' At The Savoy".

By way of an update, I retired from active duty on 1 February 2015 and am now a civilian freelance musician. For the moment however, I've left this photo on the page because these musicians are my friends and I am proud to have served in this organization. As you can see by the different uniforms, it is not a U.S. Air Force ensemble. In fact, it's The NATO Jazz Orchestra, the primary performing ensemble of the SHAPE International Band and an ensemble I was privileged to lead from March, 2010 to September, 2012. Looking on directly to my right is vanemveebel Ivar Kiiv, a trombone player in the Estonian Army Band.
